Nooks

Today was our final chance to finish up with the nooks and do as much as we can to organize them. Our team, which included both Sonrise students as well as Choate students, worked together to label and check for any problems. Together, we met as a group to discuss plans for the future and come up with ideas for the most efficient "nook system" possible.

Thanks Milly!

After 6 days without luggage, Kirby was finally reunited with her suitcase. Milly, the bishops assistant, spent countless hours in the Kigali airport searching for it and when it finally arrived at our hotel, Kirby couldn't have been happier. Thanks Milly!

Choate Rwanda project

We spent the day today organizing the nooks and exchanging facebook names with each other. One of the most important aspects of this trip was trying to establish a connection and a friendship with students at the Sonrise School. We all feel that we were able to accomplish that goal to an even greater extent than we could've ever imagined. We brought with us a Choate banner (held by Mr. Yanelli and Claver) on which everyone wrote their name. Today was a really special day because it felt like the friendships we had made weren't going to end just because we were.

The volcano

The Bishop, while away in Thailand, let us borrow his driver for a day of adventure. Led by Claver, we took a bumpy ride up the volcano kinigi where we were able to see so many more families struggling with poverty. When we finally reached the top, a mind boggling 9,000 ft, we were immersed in an authentic culture show. We learned how to dance, cook, drum, shoot arrows and even make medicine with the elders.

Bracelets

We've been doing some collecting and creating on this trip. Everyone has decorated their wrist in some shape or form, whether it's a Rwandian bead bracelet or yarn braided by a student at Sonrise.

Greetings from the Congo!

Pictures from the market today!

Claver led us through the market in Musanze today and we got to shop and experience the local culture.

Off for a day of exploring!

Keays, Emma and Derek are so excited to go explore everything Rwanda has to offer!

Activities

Besides the nooks, we spent time shooting hoops, braiding hair and making beautiful bracelets with the Sonrise students in both the Primary and Secondary school.

Nooks!

We made a ton of progress with the nooks today. Will, Keays and Derek went over to the primary school to help Vanessa, Sonrise's seamstress, sew together the nook covers so they would last longer. Grace, Kirby and Emma finished up loading all of the books onto the nooks and by the end of the day we were able to bring them over to teach Primary school teachers how to use them. Here are a few pictures of the process!
